Pro-Ject The Classic vinyl record review and description

The Pro-Ject The Classic player is made in the traditional design for the heyday of this technique. The device has a frame chassis and a subchassis mounted on a suspension bracket (plate made of fiberboard and aluminum), in which the disk bearing and tonearm are mounted. The engine is mounted on the main chassis and, taking into account the additional damping, is completely mechanically decoupled from the rest of the turntable design. This model uses electronic stabilization of the rotational speed of the disk, similar to that used in the SpeedBox module.
For the sub-chassis suspension in the player, not traditional springs with a number of disadvantages are used, but elastic balls made of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) - six such supports are located in the recesses of the main chassis, the location of which was calculated in order to obtain the best damping.
The supporting disc in the Pro-Ject The Classic player also consists of two parts - the main one, machined from aluminum with TPE damping, and the subdisk, which is connected to the engine with the aid of a belt. The bearing in the player is made of alloy steel, bronze and Teflon - the same bearing design is used in the Debut series turntables, but in this case all its elements are made with an order of magnitude higher accuracy.
The Pro-Ject The Classic has a straight tone arm made of carbon fiber and aluminum, which is 9 inches long and is based on precision cardan bearings made in Japan. It includes azimuth adjustments and VTA, and another feature of the tonearm is that the cable for the pickup is inserted in its middle, which reduces the load on the structure. In some configurations, the player is equipped with a 2M Silver pickup, made by Ortofon for this particular model. In the head, the copper wire in the coil is replaced with silver, which expanded the range of reproducible frequencies and increased its linearity. The player is mounted on anti-vibration supports, adjustable in height. The Classic comes with a dust cover and a high-quality Connect it E branded cable for connecting to a phono-corrector.
